BLACK SQUID
Also known as “ghost squid” or “oceanic squid”, is commonly found along Vietnam’s central coastline, including Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Phu Yen, and is especially abundant in the waters around the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.
It is significantly larger than regular squid, characterized by its dark, almost black coloration, a broad tail shaped like a fish fin, and thick, firm flesh.
Highly voracious, it hunts both day and night. It appears most frequently during the rough-sea season, from mid-December to late September of the following year - also the prime harvesting period for local fishermen.
